This one of a kind garment is made from 100% African Baule Fabric, we are honoured to take these vintage textiles and re-imagine them into one of a kind clothing pieces and equally honoured that you have chosen to make one of these pieces part of your wardrobe.
Baule Cloth originates from West Africa – Ivory Coast – and is handcrafted at all stages. The process of making the cloth starts with women in the community spinning locally grown cotton into yarn. The yarn is dyed using leaves, flowers and stems from the Indigofera plant and turned into a pulp. The pulp is dried in the sun and then ground into a powder before the threads are resist dyed according to traditional patterns passed down from master crafters. Using a technique called Ikat, threads are lined up on a loom to form a pattern before weaving. The men in the village weave the thread into narrow strips, which are then handstitched together to produce a cloth.
Due to both the vintage and handcrafted nature of this item there may be areas where the seams have been restitched, a few marks, fading and weaving inconsistencies are characteristic.
These pieces are one-of-a-kind and needs to be treated with care:
